AUDITIONS for “BRASSED OFF” by Paul Allen, adapted from the screenplay by Mark Herman. Production dates 7-21 August
Sunday 28 March at 2pm at THE ROSE CENTRE
“Forget feel-good, this is feel-bloody-marvellous”; “Funny, moving and heart-warming”.
At times spine-chilling, at times side-splittingly funny, Brassed Off will take you into the hearts and minds of miners faced with the prospect of losing jobs, homes, marriages and worst of all their music.
For Danny it is music that embodies the spirit of the mining community in Grimley, Yorkshire. But as the closure of the mine looms large on the horizon, not all the members of the Colliery Brass Band can share his passion. However, attitudes change with the arrival of the gorgeous Gloria and a new wave of enthusiasm sweeps through the band which embarks on the battle for the National Championships.
This production will be an exciting collaboration with the North Shore Brass Band who are competing in the New Zealand National Championships in July prior to joining our production which will run from 7-21 August. Each night we shall have a band of about 15 musicians on stage.
We are looking for the following cast:
Gloria 20’s
Sandra, 30’s, Phil’s wife and mother to 4 children
Phil 30’s harassed husband of Sandra
Andy 20’s
Rita and Vera 40 – 60
Danny 60-70 bandmaster and father of Phil
Harry and Jim 40-60
Shane 10-12 years old
Yorkshire accents will be required

Club Night that was held on Friday 26th February
REVIEW of “Musidora” by Maggie Maxwell. This was an enjoyable informed evening for those who attended. Following a drink and a chat we watched Maggie Maxwell’s play Musidora which was work shopped to an audience of twenty plus members and non members. Sue Golding was one of the four very accomplished cast members, and David Blakey, set designer, gave us a description of how the set would look and function. The audience enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions and make comments about the play, and Maggie seemed very grateful for the feed back.
